Red Yeast Rice is the source of the Monascus purpureus ingredient. This ingredient has the ability to lower cholesterol – total and LDL – in the liver, as well as triglyceride levels in humans. It has a mechanism of action similar to statins and its intake significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Precautions upon consumption / interactions:
Overdose can cause headache, dizziness and palpitations. Vulnerable poeple with liver disease, infections and those who have had a transplant should avoid taking it. Red Yeast Rice should not be taken at the same time as cholesterol pills i.e. statins, with niacin (Vitamin B3) or with alcohol. Avoid taking Red Rice Yeast during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
